Pipe Opener II - Carolina Horse Park

Writer: Pam JensenPam Jensen

The Carolina Horse Park welcomed nearly 200 riders Saturday, February 19th, for its first equestrian show of 2025, marking a successful start to the competition season. After January's Pipe Opener 1 fell victim to snow, perfect weather blessed this week's Pipe Opener II, bringing relief to competitors eager to return to the show grounds.

"The Pipe Openers at the Carolina Horse Park offer a unique opportunity for competitors across multiple disciplines to come and get out before the show season starts," explained  Sarah C. Thomas, Event Secretary for the Carolina Horse Park.  "We had eventers, dressage riders, and jumpers join us on Saturday to knock the winter rust off before our recognized events start in March."

True to its name: Pipe Opener is a term borrowed from horse racing describing an exercise to open the lungs and clear the airways.  Carolina Horse Park's Pipe Opener served its purpose perfectly. The show serves as a crucial stepping stone for competitors preparing for the more rigorous recognized events that will begin next month.

The diverse gathering of disciplines and strong turnout suggests an enthusiastic start to what promises to be an exciting 2025 season at the Carolina Horse Park.
